The Riverside Experience

From time immemorial, Native American tribes – particularly the Ute Indians - journeyed to the natural springs in what is now the town of Hot Sulphur Springs for their spiritual and medicinal powers. The first white visitors to the area chronicled their visit, and their dealings with The Utes, in the early 1840’s. The springs were “developed” and opened to those brave enough to traverse Berthoud Pass and the Grand River valley in the 1860’s. Today, they are still the reason people travel to Hot Sulphur Springs, seeking solitude in this quiet mountain park and to soak in the soothing waters, regardless of the ambient temperatures.

Hot Sulphur Springs is also near the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park and the Grand Lake Recreational area – 20 miles from our doorstep at The Riverside. Grand County also boasts four Championship Golf Courses within 20 miles of the hotel, including the 27-hole Pole Creek Golf Club, the #1-rated public golf course in Colorado. For those who don't want to wander far from the hotel, there is a small public park in our backyard that runs along the Colorado River and hosts an 18-hole disc golf course. Visit the national park and the lake, or golf during the day, and escape from the bustle at night for a soak in the springs, an elegant meal and a restful sleep at The Riverside.

The fall brings spectacular beauty as the mountain valleys glow with the gold of turning Aspens, the solitude of a Colorado angling experience or the thrill of a trophy Elk hunt. Located a few miles from the hotel is Gold Medal water on the Colorado River, which follows along Highway 40 and has easy parking and access to the river. Grand County is a Sportsmen’s paradise, and The Riverside is the ideal location for a day of hunting or fishing, and an evening of fine food, beverage and comfortable slumber. We’ll take care of all the details for you and your group, including expert local guide services.

And then there’s winter – it’s why you come to the mountains. A short and dramatic 90 mile drive from Denver, The Riverside is also centrally located amidst the Winter Park, Sol Vista, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Steamboat Springs ski resorts. Ski all day, and then escape the resort crowds and resort prices with a short drive to The Riverside. Soak your tired bones in the hot springs – a short walk from our hotel – wine, dine and call it a night in one of our historic, quiet, comfortable rooms.
